gonna keep this short. just to inform you guys of my whereabouts just incase i'll have problems coming online and you don't hear from me for two months..at least you'll know why. i'll be leaving for London tomorrow morning at 11am. will head down to Leeds to meet Mandy on Saturday, then off to Paris on Sunday. will be back in London by Weds til the end of June. mann everything has been so rushed since my last exam paper on Thursday..haven't seen a lot of people (Sang u were supposed to come back!! *sulk*)...and i'm gonna miss my girlfriends..yes, i have finished Uni! kinda bittersweet really..sigh, i leave with a heavy heart but i suppose a change would do me good. take care everyone, do drop me an e-mail to let me know what you guys are up to now, love yous and god bless!

i dunno why i love doing this to myself - scaring myself silly! its been a lifelong hobby of mine ever since i could remember. back in the day when we used to travel out of town to visit Aunty Nyah's place in Ipoh, or staying in the supposed haunted guest house in Penang, arwah Datuks creepy house in Kuantan..even the 'istana' we used to live in KB..i get a thrill listening to spooky stories and then not being able to sleep at night thinking someone's watching me from the corner of the room, or better yet rolling over only to brush my hand against something that "feels" like hair! haha omg i'm getting spooked just typing this out..i bet there's something looking over my shoulder right about now...eeeks!! put on some r&b music quicckkkk haunting french putumayo not helping! ahh shekireaah shekireahh ;P

Do you have an exact double somewhere in the world? Can a person be in two places at once? There are many intriguing accounts throughout history of people who claim to have either encountered apparitions of themselves - their doppelgangers - or have experienced the phenomenon of bilocation, being in two separate locations at the very same time.

"Doppelganger" is German for "double walker" - a shadow self that is thought to accompany every person. Traditionally, it is said that only the owner of the doppelganger can see this phantom self, and that it can be a harbinger of death. Occasionally, however, a doppelganger can be seen by a person's friends or family, resulting in quite a bit of confusion.

In instances of bilocation, a person can either spontaneously or willingly project his or her double, known as a "wraith," to a remote location. This double is indistinguishable from the real person and can interact with others just as the real person would.

Emilie Sagée

One of the most fascinating reports of a doppelganger comes from American writer Robert Dale Owen who was told the story by Julie von Güldenstubbe, the second daughter of the Baron von Güldenstubbe. In 1845, when von Güldenstubbe was 13, she attended Pensionat von Neuwelcke, an exclusive girl's school near Wolmar in what is now Latvia. One of her teachers was a 32-year-old French woman named Emilie Sagée. And although the school's administration was quite pleased with Sagée's performance, she soon became the object of rumor and odd speculation. Sagée, it seemed, had a double that would appear and disappear in full view of the students.

In the middle of class one day, while Sagée was writing on the blackboard, her exact double appeared beside her. The doppelganger precisely copied the teacher's every move as she wrote, except that it did not hold any chalk. The event was witnessed by 13 students in the classroom. A similar incident was reported at dinner one evening when Sagée's doppelganger was seen standing behind her, mimicking the movements of her eating, although it held no utensils.

The doppelganger did not always echo her movements, however. On several occasions, Sagée would be seen in one part of the school when it was known that she was in another at that time. The most astonishing instance of this took place in full view of the entire student body of 42 students on a summer day in 1846. The girls were all assembled in the school hall for their sewing and embroidery lessons. As they sat at the long tables working, they could clearly see Sagée in the school's garden gathering flowers. Another teacher was supervising the children. When this teacher left the room to talk to the headmistress, Sagée's doppelganger appeared in her chair - while the real Sagée could still be seen in the garden. The students noted that Sagée's movements in the garden looked tired while the doppelganger sat motionless. Two brave girls approached the phantom and tried to touch it, but felt an odd resistance in the air surrounding it. One girl actually stepped between the teacher's chair and the table, passing right through the apparition, which remained motionless. It then slowly vanished.

Sagée claimed never to have seen the doppelganger herself, but said that whenever it was said to appear, she felt drained and fatigued. Her physical color even seemed to pale at those times.

Famous Doppelgangers

There have been many cases of doppelgangers appearing to well-known figures:
Guy de Maupassant, the French novelist and short story writer, claimed to have been haunted by his doppelganger near the end of his life. On one occasion, he said, this double entered his room, took a seat opposite him and began to dictate what de Maupassant was writing. He wrote about this experience in his short story "Lui."

John Donne, the 16th century English poet whose work often touched on the metaphysical, was visited by a doppelganger while he was in Paris - not his, but his wife's. She appeared to him holding a newborn baby. Donne's wife was pregnant at the time, but the apparition was a portent of great sadness. At the same moment that the doppelganger appeared, his wife had given birth to a stillborn child.

Percy Bysshe Shelley, still considered one of the greatest poets of the English language, encountered his doppelganger in Italy. The phantom silently pointed toward the Mediterranean Sea. Not long after, and shortly before his 30th birthday in 1822, Shelley died in a sailing accident - drowned in the Mediterranean Sea.

Queen Elizabeth I of England was shocked to see her doppelganger laid out on her bed. The queen died shortly thereafter.

In a case that suggests that doppelgangers might have something to do with time or dimensional shifts, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the 18th century German poet, confronted his doppelganger while riding on the road to Drusenheim. Riding toward him was his exact double, but wearing a gray suit trimmed in gold. Eight years later, von Goethe was again traveling on the same road, but in the opposite direction. He then realized he was wearing the very gray suit trimmed in gold that he had seen on his double eight years earlier! Had von Goethe seen his future self?

noteworthy events that happened last week:

• got a job offer from Anna (Ogilvy PR) to work on some sort of culinary/gourmet/travelling awards (think on the scale of the Oscars..but for food! yummyyum.) that they're trying to bring down to Kuala Lumpur..it will be the first of its kind here. so apparently Alison recommended moi..but the awards will be from the 24th - 27th of May 2006. i'll be in London..bummer!! would have loved to play a part in the whole process..oh well! on another note, how flattering is that..getting job offers before even stepping into the working world! yes someone pop this big-headed bubble and quick! i guess five years of being a total geek is finally paying off. sigh.
• was uber productive on Friday with Da..recce-ed various shops in the Hartamas and One Utama area..stop saying SPONSOR Da!! see, Da's way of asking for sponsors is..."this is a student charity projecccttt" in her pseudo-american accent lol you crack me up lah woman! anyway on that note, anyone knows any indoor-games that the blind + disabled children could play with normal children? do let me know :)
• spent 5 hours on Saturday at the salon. am now a redhead.
• woke up early on Sunday had brekkie with Dewi and Pearly @ Coffeebean in Subang Parade. Dropped by blook after and persuaded them to buy outfits for themselves..i love telling people what to buy! which made me think of a career as a clothes buyer for..i dunno..Cavalli or summat? lol a girl can only dream :) took Dewi to Cats Whiskers and One Utama for tea in the evening and to look for my UrbanGlam outfit..check!
• am currently watching the directors cut of Amadeus (won 8 Oscars back in the day)- a movie on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's career and life threatened by envious court composer Antonio Salieri. i've watched 2.30hours of it and i must say i'm loving it - despite the horrid American accent the actors put on. once you get over that, it's really quite enjoyable..The Man... The Music... The Madness... The Murder... The Motion Picture...loveee the elaborate costumes..kinda makes me want to own a poofy white wig. ooh can't wait to see the ending! :)

Kindergarten Celebrity Reading : Check!

So Phase 2 of the Scoop on Books! Reading Campaign took place last Friday (10 March 2006) and was an absolut success! Three celebs reading to children at three separate kindergartens simultaneously, followed by a drawing competition themed My Favourite Animal/Pet. Selected winners will then have their artwork printed on to cards to be sold at RM10.00 a pack. Proceeds will go to the Assistance to Blind Children Centre under the supervision of Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB).

Art of Reading: 'The Scoop On Books!

LIKE all good habits, the love for reading is best instilled in children at an early age. But getting children to read books is no mean feat when television and computer games compete for interest.

In their bid to inculcate the reading habit among preschoolers, undergraduates from the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) recently organised The Scoop On Books! campaign.

Along with celebrities Ashraf Sinclair, Adibah Noor and Cheryl Samad, the campaign starts this month with a reading session at selected kindergartens, namely, Smart Reader Kids centres, Seri Manja Saleha and Judith Childcare Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

"We must lay the foundation to cultivate reading habits from young so that children will become passionate about reading," says campaign patron Datin Radziah Mohd Daud, who is also president of National Association of Early Childhood Care and Education.

"Reading a book provides an avenue for healthy adult-child interaction. Discussing what the child likes or dislikes about the illustrations is an intelligent way to generate conversation about its plot, and this can enhance their creativity and ability in expressing themselves."

Also involved in the campaign is children’s book author Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson. Her book Natu the Chichak will be read to the children during the campaign.

Apart from the reading sessions, the campaign also aims to collect a minimum of RM10,000 for the Assistance to Blind Children, under the guidance of the Malaysian Association for the Blind.

"A drawing competition will be held after the reading sessions. The winning designs will be printed onto cards, which will then be sold at RM10 per booklet. Proceeds will go to the association for the blind," says project director Audra Kesumati Ruslani.

"Rebecca has also agreed to donate 30 per cent of the net sales from her books, sold through us, to the fund. There will also be the traditional box donation in campus."

On April 2, the campaign will host a Sundae Party for the children of the participating kindergartens and the association for the blind.

To be held at Galeriizu, Kuala Lumpur, the party will feature a final reading session by Duckett-Wilkinson.

dropped by galleriiizu yesterday, had small chitchat with the man himself - Izu. apparently he won Malaysia's bid against Singapore to bring the Anatolia (Sp?) Musical to town..so wa-hey, another must-go-to event :)

Izu's also working on organizing Malaysia's first Biennale sometime this year or the next..exciting stuff! asked him for invites and he's like yeah! but he really caught me off guard when he mentioned "well if all goes well with your project, who knows, i might offer you a job here at galleriiizu"...i swear my mouth literally just dropped to the floor, it don't get much better than this! a job at an art gallery sounds right up my alley.

seeing how i don't have proper art education tho, i see this as my agenda when in London (tickets have been booked for the 10th of May - 26th of June 2006) - yeahh Audra's getting art-educated! apparently Tate Modern offers free lectures so being the Malaysian that I am, will deffo try to take full advantage of that :) i've checked out some of the summer courses, but looks like most start the week before i arrive..bah.

i'm also looking forward to this Brazillian festival of art, music, film, theatre and dance celebrating Tropicalia - the cultural revolution that re-defined Brazilian art, music and fashion in the 1960s and beyond, at the Barbican.

and finaaally, my other agenda is to finally get the damn tube system sussed! i know i know, its not my first time, but i still kinda suck at figuring out the stations (esp when i have to jump lines). so yeah, i'll arm myself with one of those Lonely Planet guidebooks and wander around aimlessly :( must see Soho this time around! also wanted to take up Pole-dancing lessons, but i'm pretty sure maman will not hear of it *sob*

Thursday (23/02/2006)

6.00pm: reached Spectrum. Dada was making media calls (complete with a curler on her fringe..tsk!), Nadia making last minute changes to some documents. Waited for Peat to start on music selection. Peat brought a weird rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. hmm.

7.00pm: dinner at the cafe with Peat and Ian and 2 little kitties.

8.30pm: picked Net and Aizam from the library. headed to the hotel. utterly impressed - the ballroom was so much more than we expected! well worth the money we paid for it. was reeeally nice...6 chandeliers and uber spacious! got everyone excited thats fersho ;)

9.30pm: after everyone settled down, started on the technicalities first - the projector, music, mics etc.

10.00pm: rehearsals started. slightly disorganised, but still fun in the beginning.

Friday (24/02/2006)

6.00am: got up, got ready

7.20pm: reached the Hotel, managed to catch Nadia's interview on our event on Red104.9am..well done Nadia (eventho u forgot to mention sponsors *lolsie*..small matter, good 1st radio presentation all the same)!! everyone looked so professional..so nice! we all had meehoon for breakfast (that i brought from the caterers near Eliza's place).

had another dry run rehearsal before i had to leave to pick Rebecca up from her hotel. i swear waking up early in the morning really makes you feel productive haha!

9.00am: one by one our VIPs started arriving. but where oh where were the press? panicked a little coz we only had 3 media who confirmed attendance. you're thinkin..what only 3? keep in mind that

i) there was another event at the same location involving the Ministry of Higher Education - so most of the media were assigned there.

ii) a MALAY university student project handling a book reading campaign? zzz surely! on that account alone we lose out on the Chinese and Chinese-owned papers.

iii) our event was prolly too early for most of them to want to come. THIS was our bad, shuda set the time slightly later - 10am would have been best. oh well now we know! :)

9.30am: STILL barely any media and i'm freaking out. entertained our VIPs for a little while. got Syibs to fill out the back portion of the seats with anyone - our excessive classmates for one. thank God Pn Noraini's hubby, daughter + friends decided to turn up. i heard that Bidin and Syibs went around the school asking if anyone wanted "TO MEET ASHRAF SINCLAIR" to try and get traffic into our hall. well if they didn't have classes (the reason they were in school in the first place??) i'm sure they would have loved to come - doh!

10.50am: we got 5 members of the press! we start our event..yippee!

11.00am: event goes uber smoothly..no major glitches and the media really paid attention and did not look bored at all, all thanks to our greaaaaaaaat panel! i love our panel (yes i love me too hah :P )

Panel consisted of moi as Project Directore, Datin Radziah as Patron, Mr George Thomas - Exec Director of MAB, Rebecca Duckett-Wilkinson as Children's Book Author and Mr Ashraf Sinclair as hottie2scottie..i mean as the celeb who's supporting this event *sheepish grin*

we deffo got the right people to be a part of this - they were all so passionate and gave the right vibe during their speeches. Datin Radziah rocked and saved our ass during the Q&A bit when no one asked questions, she sure knew how to break the ice! lets sing the chichak song everybodeyhh! Rebecca - Love herrrrrrr..she cooool (that coming from me..lets just say i hardly use that to describe a lot of ppl :P) expressed herself really well and Ashraf..well what can i say about Ashraf..Mr Handsome is not only pretty and nice to look at (made all the girls giggle and swoon), he's got charisma and a very likeable personality..kept his speech humourous (yes Mr Short-Attention-Span!), short and sweet..thanks 'Shraffy!

after all the speeches by members of the panel, we had the launching cake-cutting ceremony which went very well indeed (after the previous nites debate on choice of music - we eventually settled on Basement Jaxx's Do Your Thing (thanks Patrickus for this!), had our photo session with the cake, the buntings etc.

proceeded to have light refeshments. had to do the PR thing and mingle with everyone - never in a million years would i have seen myself doing the mingling thing..i'm so not the type! but i think i did a good job if i may say so myself ;) aww c'mon give a girl a break eh?

got interviewed by Fairuz from i-kon, Berita Harian so that should come out either next Sat or the following Sat (i-kon is a weekly thing).

The goss:

i shouldn't really bitch about this but gah this one "celeb's" attitude just threw me off so bad! so we get her to be a part of our event right coz u know, she's a TESL graduate or summat and we thought hey she could sure use the coverage. so we sent her the proposal about a month back, we ask her hey are you free on this date, would you be interested so on so forth. she says yes.

a week back, we tell her prepare a short speech..not more than 5 mins, just a brief backgrounder on yourself, why you're interested in this. easy peasy yea? we didnt mind giving her keypoints even.

during rehearsal on Thursday, she sends a text msg to Eliza..i told you, no speech. i'm not even on the panel, i'm just there to support. there were other text msgs before, but the thing that pissed me off was her tone..uber rude! like what, just cause this is a student charity project, it gave you the right to act diva-ish with us is it? one minute telling us you'll do it, the next minute pulling out like that. so fine, i told Eliza, no need to reply..when she comes on Friday morning just sit her down and ask her nicely if she's sure she wants to do this cause its gonna look bad on her behalf if she's there n she doesn't say anything.

so the next morning, she texts Eliza and she says no speech and no panel if you dont give me your word i'm turning back now. what the hell was her problem? here i was freaking out about our media..i REALLY didn't need this sort of attitude from some two-bit 'celeb'. i told Eliza she was gonna bloody regret giving us the attitude once she set foot in the hotel and had a look at the place and the people that were involved in this event.

so Ms D-I-V-A comes late. but being the PD i had to be nice, but i really couldn't be arsed in giving her super great treatment.

anyhoo, you wanna hear the best part? after the photo session and all..Ms DIVA comes up to me and is absolutely positively GUSHING! she says OH THAT WAS A REAALLY GOOD SPEECH AUDRA WOW THIS IS A VERY IMPRESSIVE CAMPAIGN. OH I LOVE THE LOGO. CANTIK SANGAT! YOU GUYS PULLED THIS OFF REALLY WELL..by this time i nod, i say thank you, i smile but i sort of tune out her voice and excuse myself to accompany George for refreshments. the nerve! i knew what it was.. MS DIVA must've thought that a student project by UiTM was something irrelevant and unimportant and that it would be of mediocre standards. silly cow (literally.)

overheard at an interview with the media, MS DIVA says i'm really impressed with this project and am glad that they chose me to be part of it. really, its better than what some professional PR companies have come up with. yes we knew that all along, glad you're finally picking it up! oh and thanks for gobbling up all our cake. pft i had to stop her from cutting more cake by using the group photo session as an excuse..i mean SERIOUSLY is this woman for real?

Pn Noraini's hubby also came up to congratulate us, saying that our PC was indeed better than some professional PCs. George and Theresia also very kindly complimented on our event..so you can see why my head's up in the clouds now and is approximately the size of One Utama - new wing and all.

what upset me the most about MS DIVA's attitude was the fact that she had absolutely no confidence in us. look the way i see it, even IF our event was a small thing..you agreed to do it. be a professional and live up to it and sell the project..that is YOUR job as a celeb. Ashraf was great, he did everything we wanted him to do and more. he mingled with ALL our classmates (he did say we've got the hottest girls around..hellyea..23 superhot girls in suits, thats like every guys fantasy! who wouldnt want to be in our class lol). but no seriously, he did his part by supporting, giving the speech, mixing around with EVERYONE even Budi - shook his hand and all, said bye to each and everyone of us..tell me, how to not drool over this very FLIRTY gentleman..how? anyway yeah, i've lost any respect that i thought i had for this woman..she's not even half as popular as Ashraf and she's pulling that kinda attitude..UGH!

so that was pretty much it, short and simple the way it should've been. i sent Rebecca back to her hotel and was on my way back home when i realised i left my handphone with Bidin and camera with Ian, being the absent-minded girl that i am. went back to our hotel but everyone had left. headed back out to go home but remembered i had a photo shoot at uni with the members of IPRMSA as Ex Officio. so went back to Uni only to discover no one was there. met some random guy at Spectrum and ask to borrow his phone to call Nadia who was at SACC mall. reached SACC and Ian decides to have lunch at the Sec3 McDs. so we head on there..bloody penat ok! i want a driver!! but seriously these things make you wonder..how did they do it without handphones?

spring cleaned the Spectrum a weebit before our 'Apprentice' photoshoot. all good fun. it was a pity Nadia and I were dead knackered. came back home, and was out like a light by 9pm..totally missed the Jose Padilla thing at Zeta. SOB!!!!!!!!!!! oh well...these things happen for a reason i spose. sigh..thats it fer now..gosh what a long post! wrapping this up with pictures from yesterday.

just wanted to thank my team again..you guys were awesome! wuvallyawww!!! oh and i'm supposed to say Dada is damn glam and thank you for introducing me to the father to my 2 kids *guffaw* :)
